Is Call Of Duty Free On PS5 Games And Free To Play Options

Navigating the PlayStation Store to find free-to-play options for popular franchises can sometimes be confusing for console gamers. Many PlayStation 5 owners wonder whether they can jump into the iconic Call of Duty series without paying upfront. While premium annualized titles require a standard purchase, Activision offers dedicated free options and periodic promotions for PS5 users.

The Standalone Free-To-Play Warzone Experience

Call of Duty: Warzone serves as the primary free-to-play entry point for PlayStation 5 players. Anyone with a valid PlayStation Network account can download and play this massive battle royale experience for free. You do not even need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to access the core online multiplayer modes.

Downloading Warzone gives players access to large-scale battle royale maps and fast-paced game modes. The title receives regular seasonal updates that introduce new weapons, operator skins, and limited-time events. While cosmetic items and battle passes cost money, the core gameplay loop remains entirely accessible at no charge.

PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Trial Period Offers

Subscribers to PlayStation Plus frequently receive full Call of Duty games as part of their monthly membership benefits. Past mainline entries like WWII and Black Ops games have appeared on the service, allowing members to claim them permanently. Checking the subscription catalog regularly is a reliable way to expand your library without buying individual titles.

Activision also hosts free access weekends and trial periods for current premium titles throughout the year. During these limited-time promotional windows, PS5 owners can download and test multiplayer modes or Zombies without buying the full game. Keeping an eye on store announcements helps you catch these temporary free opportunities.

How To Find and Download Free Call Of Duty Games

Locating free content on the PlayStation 5 console requires searching the store directly from your dashboard. Simply open the PlayStation Store, select the search icon, and type in the specific game title you want to install. You can easily check options directly from the official digital storefront listings.

When viewing a Call of Duty game hub, select the three dots icon next to the purchase button to view alternate editions. This menu often reveals free downloads like Warzone or available trial versions. Once selected, click the download button to start installing the content directly onto your PS5 internal storage.

Understanding In-Game Purchases and Content Packs

While base downloads like Warzone cost nothing, optional in-game microtransactions are present throughout the ecosystem. Players can purchase COD Points to unlock cosmetic character skins, weapon blueprints, and seasonal battle passes. None of these paid items provide unfair competitive advantages during matches.

Additionally, modern Call of Duty titles utilize modular file installations to save drive space on your console. When downloading free modes, you can choose to install only the specific packs you intend to play. This flexibility ensures you maximize your storage space while enjoying free-to-play shooter action.
